Intimacy is a concept that is often difficult to define, intangible and elusive. It can be found in a childhood memory, in the interior of one\u2019s home or neighbourhood, in the gestures exchanged with loved ones, but also in the familiarity with an image, or in the attachment to an object, a material or a texture. Without directly showing situations that are immediately identifiable as intimate, how can photography express a relationship with this feeling, its fleeting and impalpable nature? How can it portray the relationship with memory, which is inevitably fallible, the often complex and changing links with loved ones, or the relationship with a home whose familiarity can turn strange at any moment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While fabricated or manipulated images are often associated with the misappropriation of public opinion or the representation of fictional universes, they are here explored for their potential to reveal our subjectivity and our relationship with reality. How can we recount our memories, express our connection to loved ones, or make our sensibilities tangible? Through elaborate processes of image manipulation, the artists in this exhibition make visible, capture or fix a form of intimacy, from the most personal expression of an emotion to the automated interpretation of human relationships by a machine. Whether made with coloured paper, generated by artificial intelligence, created entirely in the photographic laboratory or the result of meticulous photomontage, the images brought together for this exhibition reflect their au- thor\u2019s tenacious experimentation, conveying emotions that are sometimes frivolous, sometimes profound. Their explicitly fabricated nature\u2013without any hierarchy being drawn here between cut-out paper and the most sophisticated image-generating tools \u2013 highlights the sometimes strange dimension of what is most familiar to us. Through their exploratory processes and complex architecture, the artists reveal the complex mechanisms by which we apprehend the world, bearing subtle and delicate witness to the manifestation of our individual subjectivities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019intime est une notion souvent difficile \u00e0 d\u00e9finir, intangible et insaisissable. Il peut se situer dans un souvenir d\u2019enfance, \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur de sa maison ou de son quartier, dans les gestes \u00e9chang\u00e9s avec ses proches, dans la familiarit\u00e9 d\u2019une image, ou encore dans l\u2019attachement \u00e0 un objet, \u00e0 une mati\u00e8re, ou \u00e0 une texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sans montrer directement des situations imm\u00e9diatement identifiables comme intimes, comment la photographie peut-elle exprimer un rapport \u00e0 ce senti- ment, son caract\u00e8re fugace et impalpable? Comment peut-elle mettre en image les rapports \u00e0 la m\u00e9moire, forc\u00e9ment faillible, les liens souvent complexes et changeants aux personnes ch\u00e8res, ou encore la relation \u00e0 un chez-soi dont la familiarit\u00e9 peut tourner \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9trange \u00e0 tout moment? Si l\u2019image fabriqu\u00e9e ou manipul\u00e9e est souvent associ\u00e9e au d\u00e9tournement de l\u2019opinion publique ou \u00e0 la repr\u00e9sentation d\u2019univers fictionnels, elle est ici explor\u00e9e pour son potentiel \u00e0 r\u00e9v\u00e9ler notre subjectivit\u00e9, notre rapport aux choses. Comment pouvons-nous raconter nos souvenirs, traduire le lien \u00e0 des \u00eatres aim\u00e9s ou rendre tangible notre sensibilit\u00e9?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Par des processus \u00e9labor\u00e9s de manipulation d\u2019image, les artistes r\u00e9uni\u00b7es dans cette exposition permettent de rendre visible, de saisir ou de fixer une forme d\u2019intimit\u00e9, de l\u2019expression la plus personnelle d\u2019une \u00e9motion \u00e0 l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation machinique des rapports humains. Qu\u2019elles soient fabriqu\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019aide de papiers color\u00e9s, g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es par intelligence artificielle, cr\u00e9\u00e9es enti\u00e8rement dans le laboratoire photographique ou r\u00e9sultant d\u2019un photomontage minutieux, les images r\u00e9unies pour cette exposition traduisent l\u2019exp\u00e9rimen- tation opini\u00e2tre de leur auteur, traduisant des \u00e9motions tant frivoles qu\u2019\u00e9crasantes. Leur caract\u00e8re explicitement fabriqu\u00e9 \u2014 sans qu\u2019une hi\u00e9rarchie ne soit faite ici entre le papier d\u00e9coup\u00e9 et les outils les plus sophistiqu\u00e9s de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration d\u2019images \u2014 met en avant la dimension parfois \u00e9trange de ce qui nous est le plus familier. Par leurs processus exploratoires, leur architecture complexe, les artistes rendent sensible les m\u00e9canismes complexes d\u2019appr\u00e9hension du monde, t\u00e9moignant de mani\u00e8re subtile et d\u00e9licate de la manifestation de nos subjectivit\u00e9s individuelles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
