The exhibition Contemporary Perfumers<\/em> aimed to present the\u00a0 work and creations of a selection of perfumers and the diversity of their creative processes and career paths in the complex and demanding fragrance industry. It set out to unveil the different facets of the creative work behind perfume, which remains often confidential and unknown to the public. What are their inspirations? How do they work? How do they relate to iconic historical scents? How do they find their place in an extremely competitive industry? How do they render an impression, a feeling, an emotion or a story through olfaction? What happens after a perfume is composed? From the initial inspiration to the packaged bottle, a fragrance requires many steps \u2013 creative, technical and commercial \u2013 that the visitors will be invited to discover.<\/p>\n

I have\u00a0 conducted the preliminary research and contributed to the conception of this exhibition. After my departure from the mudac, the project was carried on by Claire Favre Maxwell and Am\u00e9lie Bannwart. The resulting exhibition, Nez \u00e0 nez<\/em><\/a>, was curated by the team of Nez magazine and shifted its focus on how to exhibit scent in a museum, and featured 39 fragrances from 13 perfumers in beautiful displays by Glithero.<\/p>\n

L\u2019exposition Parfumeurs contemporains <\/em>avait pour objectif de retracer le parcours et le processus cr\u00e9atif de parfumeurs contemporains au sein d\u2019une industrie complexe et tr\u00e8s exigeante. Elle devait initialement chercher \u00e0 faire conna\u00eetre au public des aspects souvent confidentiels de cette forme de cr\u00e9ation qui nous touche tous, \u00e0 titre individuel ou social. Quelles sont les inspirations des parfumeurs? Comment travaillent-ils? Comment g\u00e8rent-ils la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence olfactive \u00e0 certains parfums iconiques? Comment trouvent-ils leur place parmi une production pl\u00e9thorique? Comment traduisent-ils une impression, un sentiment, une histoire, par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire du seul sens olfactif? Comment pr\u00e9sentent-ils le parfum une fois la composition arr\u00eat\u00e9e? Des recherches initiales au flacon final, un parfum n\u00e9cessite de nombreuses \u00e9tapes \u2013 cr\u00e9atives, techniques, commerciales \u2013 qui seront r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9es dans l\u2019exposition.<\/span><\/p>\n

J’ai men\u00e9 les recherches pr\u00e9liminaires \u00e0 l’exposition et contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 sa conception. Suite \u00e0 mon d\u00e9part du mudac, le projet a \u00e9t\u00e9 men\u00e9 par Claire Favre Maxwell et Am\u00e9lie Bannwart. L’exposition finalement r\u00e9alis\u00e9e, Nez \u00e0 nez<\/em><\/a>, a \u00e9t\u00e9 commissari\u00e9e par l’\u00e9quipe de Nez magazine et s’est refocalis\u00e9e sur la probl\u00e9matique de l’exposition de fragrances dans un mus\u00e9e, au travers de tr\u00e8s beaux displays con\u00e7us par Glithero.
