Photoforum Pasquart, Biel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First exhibition in Switzerland of the three photographers Aleix Plademunt (*1980, ES), Juan Diego Valera (*1976, AR) and Roger Guaus (*1972, ES), who  founded Ca l\u2019Isidret Edicions<\/a>, after meeting and subsequently pursuing a collective project in Argentina in 2010. Ca l\u2019Isidret Edicions also serves as a laboratory, enabling diverse photographic and publishing experiences, and in which the three play the parts of both photographers and editors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They pursue individual careers and are not formally organised as a collective, but they maintain constant strong ties and collaborate frequently on joint projects. While their aesthetics remain different, they share an approach of photography: ceaseless shooting as the response to an environment and to intimate experience, photography as the mass registration of personal experience, and the constantly produced images as a raw and malleable material to be given form through publications and exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were invited to develop a collective project for the Photoforum Pasquart. As they were preparing their upcoming residency in Biel, the notion of doubt gradually emerged as the core theme of the project: \u201ca very open idea that at the same time fits very well with our essence as artists, always doubting and hesitating about the necessity and utility of our creations, at both emotional, cognitive and, finally, at artistic levels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They produced every image presented in the exhibition during a residency in Biel, photographing the city\u2019s dwellers, its streets and animals, directing their gaze and pointing their cameras at a delicate array of details: domesticated plants and flowers, tedious street signage, shiny and dusty cars, flying crows, statues in the old town, close-up portraits. Accompanying them throughout their simultaneous discovery and shooting of the city was a questioning about wealth. Having heard multiple times in Biel that Switzerland was the richest country in the world \u2013 and having promptly verified that the assertion was unfounded \u2013 this recurring claim or label nonetheless stuck with them and shaped their experience in Biel. While wealth is not straightforwardly a topic of the exhibition, this statement and the self-perception it implies underlied the processes of production and of selection of the images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils ont fond\u00e9 Ca l\u2019Isidret Edicions<\/a> apr\u00e8s s\u2019\u00eatre rencontr\u00e9s et avoir d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un projet collectif en Argentine en 2010. Ca l\u2019Isidret Edicions leur sert \u00e9galement de laboratoire, et leur permet des exp\u00e9rimentations photographiques et \u00e9ditoriales dans le cadre desquelles ils sont \u00e0 la fois \u00e9diteurs et photographes. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils poursuivent des carri\u00e8res individuelles et ne sont pas organis\u00e9s formellement en collectif, mais ils maintiennent des liens forts et constants, et collaborent fr\u00e9quemment sur des projets. Alors que leurs esth\u00e9tiques restent diff\u00e9rentes, ils partagent une certaine approche de la photographie: une constante prise de vue comme r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 un environnement et comme enregistrement de masse de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience personnelle, les images continuellement r\u00e9alis\u00e9es comme un mat\u00e9riau brut et mall\u00e9able qui prendra forme dans leurs expositions et publications.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9s \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper un projet sp\u00e9cifique pour le Photoforum Pasquart. Alors qu\u2019ils pr\u00e9paraient une r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 Bienne, la notion de doute s\u2019est progressivement impos\u00e9e comme centrale au projet: \u201cune id\u00e9e tr\u00e8s ouverte qui, en m\u00eame temps, correspond tr\u00e8s bien \u00e0 notre essence d\u2019artiste, toujours doutant et h\u00e9sitant sur la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 et l\u2019utilit\u00e9 de nos cr\u00e9ations, sur plans aussi bien \u00e9motionnels, cognitifs qu\u2019artistique.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toutes les images pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es dans l\u2019exposition ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es au cours d\u2019une r\u00e9sidence \u00e0 Bienne, au cours de laquelle ils ont photographi\u00e9 la ville, ses habitants, ses rues et ses animaux, dirigeant leur regard et pointant leur cam\u00e9ra sur une myriade de d\u00e9tails: plantes et fleurs domestiqu\u00e9es, panneaux de signalisation urbains d\u00e9taillant de multiples interdits, voitures poussi\u00e9reuses ou rutilantes, corbeaux saisis en vol, statues de la vieille ville, portraits en gros plan. Un questionnement sur la richesse les a accompagn\u00e9 au long de leur d\u00e9couverte de la ville, et de leurs prises de vue. Ayant entendu \u00e0 plusieurs reprises \u00e0 Bienne que la Suisse \u00e9tait le pays le plus riche du monde \u2013 et ayant rapidement \u00e9tabli que l\u2019affirmation n\u2019\u00e9tait pas exacte \u2013 cette revendication ou label r\u00e9currente les a n\u00e9anmoins marqu\u00e9s et a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 leur exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 Bienne. Si la richesse n\u2019est pas directement une th\u00e9matique de l\u2019exposition, cette affirmation, et la perception de soi qu\u2019elle implique, ont eu une incidence sur les processus de production et de s\u00e9lection des images.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
