The Photoforum Prize is one of the few photography prizes in Switzerland with no limits on nationality, age or career stage, and no imposed themes. It therefore presents each year a great diversity of works, testifying to the richness of the contemporary photographic scene, and the diversity of uses of the image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s submissions reflect the artists\u2019 concerns and their engagement in confronting major societal issues: the representation of certain communities that stand out from society, the migration and representation of migrant people, the ecological issues of the 21st century and the emotional responses they generate, family ties and parenthood, in particular. Some proposals examine, in another register, the performative and experimental potential of the photographic image and its ability to create a relation to the world through fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prix Photoforum 2019 was awarded to Christelle Boul\u00e9 (*1984). Her project Through the Glass<\/em> is part of her long-term work around perfume and the translation of olfactory experiences into images. For this project, she creates analog colour photograms from a collection of perfume bottles that she calls her \u201csalon des refus\u00e9s\u201d. They are perfumes that their owners no longer want, because they remind them of a former lover, because they have become obsolete, because they no longer correspond to the personality of their owner, for instance. These stories are recorded and stored with the vials, and accompany the images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Prix Photoforum est l\u2019un des rares prix de photographies en Suisse sans limites de nationalit\u00e9, d\u2019\u00e2ge ou d\u2019\u00e9tape de carri\u00e8re, et sans th\u00e9matique impos\u00e9e. Il pr\u00e9sente en cons\u00e9quence chaque ann\u00e9e une grande diversit\u00e9 de travaux, t\u00e9moignant de la richesse de la sc\u00e8ne photographique contemporaine, et de la diversit\u00e9 des usages de l\u2019image.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les photographes s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s cette ann\u00e9e refl\u00e8tent les pr\u00e9occupations des artistes et leur souci de se confronter \u00e0 des probl\u00e9matiques soci\u00e9tales majeures: la repr\u00e9sentation de certaines communaut\u00e9s se d\u00e9marquant de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9, la migration et la repr\u00e9sentation des personnes migrantes, les enjeux \u00e9cologiques du 21e\u00a0<\/sup>si\u00e8cle et les r\u00e9ponses \u00e9motionnelles qu\u2019ils suscitent, les liens familiaux et la parent\u00e9, notamment. Certaines propositions examinent, dans un autre registre, le potentiel performatif et exp\u00e9rimental de l\u2019image photographique et sa capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er un rapport au monde par l\u2019entremise de la fiction.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Prix Photoforum 2019 a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cern\u00e9 \u00e0 Christelle Boul\u00e9(*1984). Son projet A travers le verre<\/em>, encore in\u00e9dit, s\u2019inscrit dans son travail de longue dur\u00e9e autour du parfum et de la traduction en images d\u2019exp\u00e9riences olfactives. Pour ce projet, elle cr\u00e9e des photogrammes argentiques en couleur \u00e0 partir d\u2019une collection de flacons de parfum qu\u2019elle appelle son \u00ab\u00a0salon des refus\u00e9s\u00a0\u00bb. Il s\u2019agit en effet de parfums dont les propri\u00e9taires ne veulent plus, parce qu\u2019ils leur rappellent une ancienne relation, parce qu\u2019ils sont devenus d\u00e9suets, parce qu\u2019ils ne correspondent plus \u00e0 la personnalit\u00e9 de leur propri\u00e9taire, par exemple. Ces histoires sont consign\u00e9es et conserv\u00e9es avec les flacons, et accompagnent les images.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
