In collaboration with the NMB New Museum Biel and espace libre, Biel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This exhibition stems from the initiative of the seven female photographers of the photo agency VII. They each propose a visual reflection on contemporary masculinity and its media and artistic representations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Active in a professional field that remains predominantly male, photojournalism, the authors have taken this particular context as a starting point for developing a collective project, which they readily describe as a conversation. They explore, challenge and rethink images and archetypes traditionally associated with the masculine. Their projects are equally documentary and conceptual. They touch on masculine figures with limited public exposure, people who refuse the male\/female binary, or men whose representations are generally highly stereotyped. Alternatively, they rethink their own gender identity and revisit iconic works from art history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition included a performance by Nicola Genovese, a visual and performance artist whose works examines and deconstructs the codes and gestures of masculinity, and in particular of Italian masculinity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette exposition est l\u2019initiative des sept femmes photographes de l\u2019agence photographique VII. Elles proposent chacune une r\u00e9flexion visuelle sur la masculinit\u00e9 contemporaine et ses repr\u00e9sentations m\u00e9diatiques et artistiques.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles-m\u00eames issues d\u2019un milieu professionnel \u2014 le photojournalisme \u2014 encore tr\u00e8s largement masculin, les auteurs se sont saisies de ce contexte pour d\u00e9velopper ce projet collectif qu\u2019elles qualifient volontiers de conversation. Elles explorent, bousculent et repensent les images et arch\u00e9types traditionnellement associ\u00e9s au masculin. Leurs projets sont aussi bien documentaires que conceptuelles. Elles touchent \u00e0 des figures peu visibles de la masculinit\u00e9, \u00e0 des personnes refusant la binarit\u00e9 homme\/femme, ou \u00e0 des hommes dont les repr\u00e9sentations sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement fortement st\u00e9r\u00e9otyp\u00e9es. Ou encore, elles repensent leur propre identit\u00e9 de genre et revisitent des \u0153uvres iconiques de l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019exposition inclut \u00e9galement une performance de Nicola Genovese, artiste visuel et performatif qui travaille \u00e9galement sur les codes de la masculinit\u00e9, en particulier italienne.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
