First monographic exhibition of Belgian artist B\u00e9n\u00e9dicte Blondeau<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her work Ce qu\u2019il reste [What remains]<\/em> addresses the tension between the cool mastery of man-made environment and the strange majesty of organic forms slowly shaped by the natural elements and evolution. Her extraordinarily beautiful photographs have been taken across Europe in museums, courthouses and other official buildings. Almost entirely devoid of human presence, these interiors are silent and venerable transitional spaces: corridors, waiting rooms, exhibition halls, corridors. It is as if humanity has fulfilled its purpose by disappearing once the buildings are completed. In dialogue with this environment, caves, mountains and the seas appear completely indifferent to humanity\u2019s attempt to gain full control of the planet. But the plants, animals and mineral formations also appear frozen in time by the camera, equally dignified and preserved for eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artist says: \u201cPhotography can be considered the medium of the ephemeral. It shows us a moment that undeniably belongs to the past, revealing our passages in an ever-changing reality, like a scar that evokes our memories. It is a metaphor for the fragility of human existence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son travail Ce qu\u2019il reste<\/em> traite de la tension entre la ma\u00eetrise gla\u00e7ante des environnements artificiels et l\u2019\u00e9trange majest\u00e9 des formes organiques lentement fa\u00e7onn\u00e9es par les \u00e9l\u00e9ments naturels et l\u2019\u00e9volution. Ses photographies d\u2019une beaut\u00e9 extraordinaire ont \u00e9t\u00e9 prises \u00e0 travers toute l\u2019Europe dans des mus\u00e9es, des palais de justice et autres b\u00e2timents officiels. Presque enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9pourvus de pr\u00e9sence humaine, ces int\u00e9rieurs sont des espaces de transition silencieux et v\u00e9n\u00e9rables: couloirs, salles d\u2019attente, halls d\u2019exposition, vestibules. C\u2019est comme si l\u2019humanit\u00e9 avait rempli son r\u00f4le en disparaissant une fois les b\u00e2timents achev\u00e9s. En dialogue avec ces environnements, les grottes, montagnes et mers apparaissent absolument indiff\u00e9rentes \u00e0 la tentative de l\u2019humanit\u00e9 de prendre le contr\u00f4le total de la plan\u00e8te. Mais les plantes, animaux et formations min\u00e9rales semblent \u00e9galement fig\u00e9s dans le temps par la cam\u00e9ra, tout aussi solennels et pr\u00e9serv\u00e9s pour l\u2019\u00e9ternit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans les mots de l\u2019artistes: \u00ab\u00a0La photographie peut \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme le m\u00e9dium de l\u2019\u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re. Elle nous montre un moment qui appartient ind\u00e9niablement au pass\u00e9, r\u00e9v\u00e9lant nos passages dans une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 toujours changeante, comme une cicatrice qui \u00e9voque nos souvenirs. C\u2019est une m\u00e9taphore de la fragilit\u00e9 de l\u2019existence humaine.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
