Exhibition of the five nominees of the 2023 edition of the Human Rights Photography Prize of the Foundation Act On Your Future.
Technological innovations have precipitated the advent of the digital age, where intelligent and connected devices are an integral part of the private and public sphere. A tool for information, communication and empowerment, the Internet and innovative digital technologies are also powerful tools of control and alienation. Personal information is recorded and transformed into data that can then be stored and monetised.
The relationship of our ultra-connected societies with new technologies is ambivalent. While some people are fascinated by the development of artificial intelligence, others fear its exponential presence. Sometimes sacred, sometimes decried, technological advances have undeniably changed our relationship with the world and raise important issues about the protection of fundamental rights, such as freedom of expression and privacy, in the real or virtual world. However innovative these technologies may be, they are still tools. So how can we ensure that they are used responsibly and in a way that benefits living beings? In the age of the augmented human and the ultra-connected, our relationship with digital and technological tools must be constantly rethought.

Les innovations technologiques ont précipité l’avènement de l’ère numérique, où des appareils intelligents et connectés font partie intégrante de la sphère privée et publique. Outil d’information, de communication et d’émancipation, Internet et les technologies numériques innovantes sont également de puissants outils de contrôle et d’aliénation. Des informations personnelles sont enregistrées et transformées en data pouvant être ensuite stockées et monétisées.
La relation de nos sociétés ultra-connectées avec les nouvelles technologies est ambivalente. Tandis que certaines personnes sont fascinées par le développement de l’intelligence artificielle, d’autres redoutent sa présence exponentielle. Tantôt sacralisées, tantôt décriées, les avancées technologiques ont indéniablement changé notre rapport au monde et soulèvent des problématiques importantes en matière de protection de droits fondamentaux, tels que la liberté d’expression et le respect de la vie privée, dans le monde réel ou virtuel. Aussi novatrices soient-elles, ces technologies n’en demeurent pas moins des outils. Dès lors, comment s’assurer de leur usage responsable et bénéfique pour le vivant? À l’heure de l’humain augmenté et de l’ultra connecté, notre rapport aux outils numériques et technologiques doit sans cesse être repensé.
